Today was one of the best matches I’ve seen in a long time. It was South Africa vs. New Zealand in the semi finals of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup. To be honest with you, I was absolutely disappointed at the final result with New Zealand winning by 4 wickets. The match started at 3:00 morning. Many dedicated supporters woke up to watch this COLOSSAL match.
It was during the first innings, our innings when the rain stopped play came into effect as a ‘devastating’ shower passed over the field. The supporters all knew we have lost a few overs. It was an important part of our innings that came to a halt. The SA ‘miracle’ worker AB De Villiers had found his comfort zone and had a great partnership going with Faf du Plessis but then the rain had come and we they had stopped. When the rain had seized and outer field dried we returned to face our destiny. As if a big rain cloud monster had pressed a giant reset button in the sky, all the momentum AB had built up had been lost and he had to find his zone once again. The overs were reduced to 43 and in the end we had made 281/5. If it hadn’t rained and we played on we would have been able to reach 300+ but we not looking at what could have happened but rather what did. The fact of the matter is New Zealand did win and they earned it. YES, we would have won if we had not have let them get a 6 in the end but that was not how it was meant to be. Our cricket arch enemies had won and we let it happen.
We are a great team with huge potential and a big future, but we have met a side we were meant to lose to or at least just today, tomorrow is another day and is another chance to make it count. Maybe next time we will make it to the finals and make World Cup history but till then...
